Ο Κλήμης ιερομόναχος ο Λέσβιος ή Μυτιληναίος, ο και Αγιορείτης, είναι ένας σπουδαίος διδάσκαλος της μουσικής και κωδικογράφος στη Μονή Λειμώνος της Λέσβου, που ακμάζει απ᾽ το 1600 και μετά, με σημαντική επιρροή στην αγιορειτική ψαλτική, αφού παρεπιδημεί στο Άγιον Όρος. Και ως κωδικογράφος είναι πολύ καλαίσθητος και ως μελοποιός φανερώνεται ευφάνταστος και μελίρρυτος. Μελοποίησε αρκετά μαθήματα, του παπαδικού κυρίως γένους -αλληλουιάρια, θεοτοκία, κατανυκτικά, χερουβικά και κοινωνικά-, απ᾽ τα οποία διακρίνονται τα Πασαπνοάριά του, σε β´, γ´, δ´, ήχο και το οκτάηχον, για το οποίο ο ίδιος μαρτυρεί «το παρόν εποιήθη παρ᾽ εμού Κλήμεντος και ωνομάσθη υμνωδικόν, εγένετο δε δι᾽ αιτήσεως κυρίου Κοσμά του Κρητός».

He is very elegant as a scribe, and as a composer imaginative and mellifluous in style. He has set to music several Lessons (Mathemata) mostly of the Papadikon style -Alleluiaria, Theotokia, Katanyktika, Cherubika and Koinonika- among which his Pasapnoaria in the second, third and fourth modes stand out; so does the Oktaechon, about which the author himself states that "the present has been made by me, Clemes, and has been called Hymnodikon, at the instigation of Kyr (Sire) Cosmas of Crete".
